Measuring the Straight Carapace Length of a turtles shell

    Using Vernier Calipers or a straight edge ruler, measure the distance between the Nuchal to the middle of the two Anal marginal scutes as per the photo below:

    When we had the 10cm minimum size limit I always used calipers. DSE would come in and use a measuring tape and they used to argue on some sizes that were marginal until I pulled them out.

    Even a clear plastic ruler is much better for straight carapace length than a measuring tape!
