Hi Tracy and welcome to AFT!

Can you please familiarise yourself with all of the standard posts that we ask new members to read? This will help you to avoid the confusion by new members that come here that cannot understand why you shouldn't be comparing turtles in the wild to turtles that are being kept in captivity, as well as give you a lot of background information! There is quite a lot to read and take in but it is all very sound knowledge from very experienced turtle keepers!

Below are some of the standard posts and threads we ask new members to have a look at:

Please read the 'AFT Turtle Care Guide' :arrowright: AFT Freshwater Turtle Care Guide

The following is essential reading Quick Reference Guide :arrowright: How To Set Up An Aquarium For Turtles and Feeding Guide

Why you Shouldn't Keep Two Turtles Together :arrowright: Keeping Two Turtles Together

To understand why we make the recommendations that we do in the Care Guide
please read this informative post :arrowright: Why we make the recommendations that we do here on AFT Part 1

Also, it would be best to familiarise yourself with the skin infections care sheet located here :arrowright: Skin Infections

After that, you can read the Most Common Mistakes made by novice keepers thread here :arrowright: Common Mistakes

If your turtle is sick or injured and needs dry-docking :arrowright: Important Tips for Dry-Docking Sick Turtles

If you have any questions about why we recommend Calgrit/Turtle Grit and River Sand instead of pebbles and small rocks, please read this thread as well :arrowright: Gravel Blockage-Very sick turtle!

How to measure the Straight Carapace Length (SCL) of a Turtle's Shell :arrowright: Measuring the Straight Carapace Length of a turtles shell

If you have any specific questions after that, please go ahead and ask. If you want to search a particular subject, look at the top of the page for the Advanced Search link and type in the word or topic you wish to learn about.

Please, please, please can you provide me with a complete shopping list of dietary requirements for a Saw Shell (approx. 7 year old) turtle and where to source them from. I believe the turtle’s diet has been wrong, wrong, wrong or certainly imcomplete having only been feed ‘frozen turtle cube dinners’.
Please help!!! Am a very willing student who has been an observer up to now. I just feel things are not 100% right - gut instinct - and before sickness sets in, I found this forum and need to get up to speed quickly in ensuring the correct care of the turtle. I believe it has been ignorance but this can be turned around with expert advice. Please help me to get her the correct diet. Thank you everyone.

That accounts for 9% of the last 10. What's the other 1%?

Thanks Anna. Am making my way through all the info. Feeling more knowledgeable already. I’m driving my partner nuts now with my ‘wants’ for Lily. I am excited to have determined Lily is a Lily and not a ‘lad’ too.

@Aussiepride83 I never thanked you for your ‘welcome’. Getting a little bit more used to how this all works. I’ve never been on a forum before and I’m not a social media chick. All new to me so please forgive my tardy acknowledgement of your welcome

Hello! I am getting my baby in about June, I used to have 2 turtles, but one starting attacking the other, so I gave one away and put the other in a nearby pond that is perfect for turtles and have seen a couple there myself. I am getting her/his tank tomorrow and am going to start cycling pretty soon!

Hi Montana, are you saying you released your turtle into the wild to fend for itself?

Well that's totally illegal and anti-conservational. You've basically caused irreversible damage to the genetic integrity of the local endemic turtle population.
