Hi I'm new to the website and don't know how to post a new thread.
I am looking to purchase 4x 8 month old short neck turtles and a full 6ft tank set up. I have been reading lots about what we need and pretty sure I get everything on the list for set up. I'm just not sure about transporting them and the water situation. I asked the owner to keep their water as I have read that new water requires 6-8weeks of filtration which is time we don't have when buying everything together.
Any advice, guidance or help. I just want to make sure we keep happy and healthy turtles.

Hi Turtlenovice - welcome to AFT!

Re: posting new threads, just go to the forums (link in the bar at the top of the page), then choose the topic area most relevant to your question and click on that, then on the top right of the page you'll see a big blue button with post new thread on it. Click on that, and voila!

What type of turtles are you purchasing? That will make a big difference to your setup. New tanks/filters do require 6-8 weeks to cycle, and while the water will help that process it won't cycle your tank and filter by itself.

Can I recommend you read the Care Guide (in my signature below), it will answer most of your questions, and then if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask. :)

Thank you for your quick reply!
    They are Murray River turtles.
I will have a read now and most likely still have questions. :)
    Thank you!!

No worries, just letting you know that a 6ft tank wouldn't be enough for one Murray let alone four. They get huge, like 30cm SCL, so you'd need to upgrade to an 8ft tank or an outdoor pond within a couple of years, maybe less. Four would definitely require a large outdoor pond when they're big enough.

Can you provide the link to the turtles and set up on Gumtree?

I just went to get the ad but it isn't there, here is an image I asked for of the tank. It has an Aqua One 2700UVC pressurised canister filter. Water heater, thermometer, light, dock and some other accessories.

You will definitely need an outdoor pond, especially if there ends up being 2 or more females in the group. Saw-shells / Saw-shelled turtles are sexually dimorphic with females growing up to 30cm SCL and males less than 22cm SCL.
