  1. Your user name can be your real name as with Facebook, or a nickname. Made up names, nicknames etc. will be accepted but must be at least 3 letters long and not be just numbers. Please DO NOT use numbers by themselves. User names must not be considered rude and offensive, political, religious or anti-conservation in nature, as although it is fine to have your own beliefs, others may not feel the same way as you and may be offended.
  2. All content must be 'Family Friendly'. Please do not post anything that is not suitable for children.
  3. Please do not use foul or offensive language.
  4. Please respect the opinions of others. Offering alternative opinions is fine, provided it is done in a polite fashion.
  5. Please refrain from 'bad mouthing' or belittling Administrators, Moderators, Members or Commercial enterprises on this forum. Any Member also found 'bad-mouthing'/criticising AFT (this site) or any of the AFT Moderators on other sites including Facebook will be immediately banned for life with no warning or explanation given. If any defamatory or slanderous comments are found on other sites we will seek legal advice. We do not condone publicly 'flaming' businesses or individuals who you have had bad dealings with. Instead we recommend that if you have any complaints, please deal with the matter away from this site in private.
  6. Rude or belligerent posts or posts that belittle AFT Administrators, Moderators, Members, Websites and Forums are not permitted and will be deleted. Any posts considered to be particularly harmful, spiteful or vindictive will be removed immediately and the member who posted the message may be banned immediately at the discretion of AFT Moderators.
  7. The Moderators of Australian Freshwater Turtles are not paid to do their job. We have set up and will continue to maintain this forum because we are dedicated to Australian Freshwater Turtle welfare and conservation. Whilst we appreciate and value your opinion on all topics, a Moderators decision is final.
  8. The Website is not to be used to promote, advertise, or discuss other forums, websites or non-members in any way. The Website cannot be used to promote any kind of illegal activity, this includes the taking of turtles from the wild or illegally keeping exotic turtles. If a member is suspected of carrying out an illegal activity i.e. selling 'poached' or keeping unlicensed animals, the site reserves the right to ban the user either permanently or for a period of time, as determined by the forum Administrator and/or Moderators. In these cases no written warnings will be given.
  9. Negative discussions/comments regarding Veterinary Surgeons and/or their practices are prohibited in the forums. If you wish for a particular Veterinarian or Veterinary Practice to be added to the 'Recommended Turtle Vets' sub-forum, all recommendations must be submitted to the Administrator via private message or by emailing- [email protected] Their inclusion or exclusion will be at the Administrator's sole discretion and this decision is final.
  10. Spamming will result in being permanently banned from the site.
  11. This site does not have a membership status based on post count. 'Nuisance' Posts or posts that appear to be made for the sole purpose of boosting a members post count will be deleted.
  12. This site does not have a membership ranking system dependent upon the number of posts by any given member.
  13. Please refrain from using 'SMS text lingo' or other phone text abbreviations. Examples: i instead of I, ill instead of I'll, m8 (mate), 4 (for), ur (your), U (you), thx (thanks), wat (what) etc. as it creates too much work for our volunteer moderators. If text lingo is used, the moderators reserve the right to delete the thread/post immediately. We respectfully ask you to try to follow these rules for a number of reasons. We are a not-for-profit freshwater turtle organisation and all of out time is donated to helping people help their turtles. I'm sure you understand that we would prefer to spend time answering questions and helping people rather than fixing i, im, ill, id etcetera.
We are trying to make each and every post as comprehensible as possible for everyone who does searches, including International visitors from various countries.

Google bots, as well as lots of others, crawl through our site looking for good, clear information on various topics. They cache the information and store it so if anyone searches the subject, they will be directed to our site.

If the information is in a format that cannot be understood then it will be filtered out and our site will not be able to help others. We are number 1 on Google when searching Australian freshwater turtles and Australian turtles and would like to stay there if we can. The more people we can help, the more turtles we will ultimately be able make their lives better! The use of capitals at the beginning of sentences helps us to understand your posts as they are meant to be.

If you have a genuine disability, please contact the administrator at [email protected] to discuss the matter.
  14. Please use proper English, grammar, spelling and punctuation to the best of your ability. Remember, the more difficult it is for members to read your posts, the less likely it will be that people will reply and help you with your enquiry. A 'spelling checker' (Dictionary) is available for the site. For example alot and aswell are not one word, they are two words (a lot) and (as well).
The use of capitals at the beginning of sentences helps us to understand your posts as they are meant to be.

If you have a genuine disability, please contact the administrator at [email protected] to discuss the matter.
