Hello all members, we are asking for your assistance and suggestions to help us change the laws, banning the use of Stainless Steel Hooks for all Freshwater Fishing!
This can be done by helping to educate freshwater fishers that freshwater turtles are not a threat, (to their sport or the species they are targeting), and that their main source of foods are macrophytes (aquatic vegetation), windfall fruits and leaves, as well as carrion (dead animals) and freshwater crustaceans and invertebrates!
In a joint effort between the Qld EPA (Freshwater Turtle Project Senior Technical Officer), AFTCRA Inc. and this forum site, Australian Freshwater Turtles Forum, we are hoping to lobby Qld State Fisheries (The Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries-The Hon. Tim Mulherin MP) as well as Commonwealth Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry -The Hon. Tony Burke MP.
